IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO GET INVOLVED: SEND A LETTER TO YOUR MPP

Tony Dean was contracted by the government in 2014 to review key areas of Ontario’s skilled trades system, within the mandate of the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT), and provide a report with his recommendations. Although he consulted with many stakeholders within the industry, their opinions were not reflected in the final document. The government has stated that it plans to implement all of Mr. Dean’s recommendations without further consultation, which we fear will cause irreparable harm to the trades and Ontarians.

We are concerned about the impact his recommendations will have on the electrical industry regarding scopes of practice, the use of the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) for enforcement appeals, and the composition of review panels.

ECAO is part of the Progressive Certified Trades Coalition (PCTC), which is a united industry coalition representing both contractors and unions in the compulsory trades for the safety and security of all Ontarians.

The PCTC spent two days at Queen’s Park in February, meeting with approximately 60 MPPs and Cabinet Ministers’ and Premier’s senior staff. To keep our message current, we request that each of you send a letter to your MPP. It will only take one minute of your time. Letter templates are available on the PCTC website at: http://protradessafeontario.ca/
